Virgin Active has today opened Virgin Active Raffles Place, its first club in Singapore and in Southeast Asia more generally.

The club is located at One Raffles Place in the heart of Singapore’s financial district. It is one of the largest in the city with 33,000 square feet of space over three levels. The club has a strong local flavour and is designed to the highest specification.

It has set itself apart from other fitness chains in Singapore in a number of areas. It offers a Relax and Recovery Zone featuring a salt room, with Himalayan salts that ionize the skin, aiding rejuvenation, and purify respiratory systems. This is the first of its kind in a Singapore fitness club and within the Virgin Active group. In addition, there are steam rooms, ice rooms and experience showers. It will also feature cutting edge equipment and classes as a well as a full digital offer for members. Following strong success in the UK and South Africa, other areas of innovation include anti-gravity yoga classes, hot yoga, sleep pods (where busy executives can steal a power nap to recharge themselves) and flexible memberships that require no long-term commitment.

Virgin Active has the opportunity to grow the market through its premium club offering and innovative approach to health and fitness. The percentage of the Singapore population with existing fitness club membership is already higher than other South-East Asian countries but still lags more developed markets such as the U.S and U.K.

The club will be the latest addition to Virgin Active’s portfolio of top tier Classic Clubs which currently includes locations in London, Milan, Madrid, Lisbon, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Sydney.

Paul Woolf, Chief Executive of Virgin Active, commented:

"I am delighted to announce the opening of our Virgin Active Classic club in Singapore. We believe that its size and innovative offering of both fitness and relaxation facilities will transform the fitness club landscape there."

“Singapore is a very exciting opportunity for us both in its own right and, together with the recent announcement of two new clubs in Australia, as another extension of our footprint in Asia Pacific.”
